If you’re studying in Newcastle, you’ll no doubt know about the city’s nightlife. Newcastle and Northumbria University were actually rated as two of the best – and you can be confident there’ll be somewhere to go every night. Here’s our rundown of the best student nights in Newcastle:
In Newcastle, there’s only one way to start the week. Monday nights out are a student institution, and you have two choices.
Think four club rooms of music – with everything from dance anthems to old-school sing-along classics. There’s always something for every taste. Drinks start at £1, and entry is even cheaper. Make sure you get there early as it can get pretty busy and you might be queuing down the road.
Step into 1980s Miami at Club Trop. The DJ’s go for a mix of all genres – current chart-toppers, RnB, electro, and even a few disco classics. Sip on a tropical cocktail or two, and make the most of the Latino vibes. You’ll be right back to reality when you step out into the Newcastle rain.
Fancy dragging your weekend out for an extra night? In Newcastle, that’s no problem at all.
Tuesday night in Newcastle equals Waikiki. Floritas, House of Smith, and Madame Koos come together to give you the biggest beach party in the north east. Think flower garlands, glow sticks, and the occasional UV paint cannon complemented with your favourite old-school anthems and club classics. There are plenty of drinks deals too: £1.50 bombs, £2.50 doubles, and £4.95 cocktail buckets.
Fancy something a bit different? Head to Cosmic Ballroom. Their Tuesday nights are run by Ill! Behaviour. Just make sure you check the event beforehand – they’re sometimes ticketed. Cosmic Tuesdays are known and loved for the house, bass, and techno DJs – and the student-friendly drinks deals, of course.
You might have heard the news that Wednesday nights in Tiger Tiger are no more. They’re currently closed for refurb – but will be back in September with something brand new! All isn’t lost though, there are plenty of other options for your Wednesday nights.
Wednesday at Perdu is one of Newcastle’s biggest student nights. There are four rooms with four DJs – including an outside ‘secret garden’ area. Plus, there are plenty of drinks deals, free entry, and a good mix of music. You can always count on Perdu being busy with a great atmosphere.
Empress is open every night of the week – but it’s the place to be on Wednesday night. You can nip in for pre-drinks or stay there for a ‘quieter’ evening. Entry is free and there are plenty of student-friendly drinks deals – from their famous trebles to original cocktails and shots.
No one in Newcastle waits for Friday to start their weekend.
Blueberry trebles at Soho are a rite of passage for Newcastle students. Soho is open most nights – but weeknights are usually the best for students. Head there on Thursdays for pre-drinks, or spend the night dancing to the best cheesy hits. Entry is free too – it’s a great option for a budget night out!
Thursday in Newcastle equals Swingers – if you can get in. The queue will probably be halfway down Grey Street but the cheap drinks, great music, and outside dance/smoking area are well worth the wait.
Flares is a firm favourite any night of the week but Thursday night is one of the best. Entry is free and there are plenty of drinks deals – including on cocktails. Sometimes, there’s no better night than singing along to 70s classics on a light up dance floor under a disco ball ceiling.
Every Thursday night, Digital hosts the biggest rock night in Newcastle. Think indie, rock, soul, and even a bit of Motown. The crowd is always massive, so get there early to avoid queuing. Expect loud music and crazy lighting.
Fridays and Saturdays are notorious in Newcastle. Most bars and clubs hike up their prices – just in time for the stag and hen dos. If you fancy a quiet night at home or at the pub, now’s the time. However, if you want to venture out, here’s where to go:
Sinners is a rite of passage if you go to uni in Newcastle. The music is great and the drinks are cheap – and you can get them even cheaper if you take your student card. The bar is notorious for its 3-for-£5ish trebles, sticky floor, and dance cage.
Weekends at Digital live up to the club’s reputation. It’s open until 4am with plenty of drinks deals and a playlist of dance and house anthems. If you’re really into clubbing and will stay up all night – Digital is for you.
Whatever your ideal night out is, you’re sure to find it at Tiger Tiger. Your night spans across three floors and seven rooms – with a huge mix of music. Think Busted one minute, and Beyonce the next. The beach vibe makes a change from the Newcastle drizzle – and there’s plenty of tropical cocktails to match.
Sunday doesn’t really mean anything in Newcastle. The student nights continue:
Persistence is Newcastle’s biggest Sunday night. Your night is spread over three floors and three genres of music – with everything from house and RnB, to pop party classics, and current chart-toppers. Make sure you get there early to avoid the queues and don’t forget to grab a wristband – it’ll give you access to student drink deals!
